Being a Holiday Host is a very rewarding job. Here are 5 Things on my Holiday Host Wishlist.

I get to manage my own diary, choose my own clientele and receive hundreds of positive reviews every year. However, a lot of work goes into managing a successful holiday home – and also a lot of expense. I often ask for gifts for birthdays and Christmasses that will help me save a bit of money in my holiday home, so I’ve put together a wishlist of things you could also get your friends if they are hosts too.

Towels, towels, towels

Every holiday home needs plenty of them – towels! We get through a lot of towels in our home, because we like to provide beautiful white towels to every guest, but unfortunately life happens and there are some stains that are just too stubborn! If we have a towel stained by hair dye or that has started to get a little bit dull, we tend to buy a whole new set, so we are always offering matching equipment. This can get a little pricey, so towels are a great gift.

A helping hand

Being a Holiday Host has a lot of moving parts to it. Between navigating difficult booking systems, to managing my personal accounts, my diary, and everything in between, it can get a little bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to doing a lot of admin work. I use an Airbnb management company to help me with my administrative work and take away the heavy lifting, which gives me more time to focus on the actual presentation of the home. I am always looking for people to help me out – it takes a village, after all.

Kitting out the kitchen

Kitchen utensils forever need replacing in a holiday home. Some utensils melt, some get stained, and cutlery has a terrible habit of going missing, keeping a fully stocked kitchen is a never-ending story for a Holiday Host, but it definitely is important that you keep on top of it. The costs of doing this can start to rise, so I always love when someone gifts me a set of pans or even some tongs. Every little helps when it comes to putting together a fully stocked kitchen.

Plants for the garden

While a beautiful house is something to be proud of, I often think that the garden is the most impactful part of people’s stay. Guests want a lovely view when they look out of their window, and to be surrounded by nature during their time outdoors. That’s why I like to work on my garden, adding new plants and keeping it tidy and well maintained between stays. With any luck, guests will feel compelled to take pictures of their beautiful surroundings, and share them on social media for a bit more advertisement!

A glass of wine and a chat as a Holiday Host

At the end of the day, hosting my own holiday home is a lot of work, and just like any other job I definitely need to unwind with a friend at the end of a busy day. Although I do have days when my home is rented out to customers, I do have to do a lot of work to perfect the house in between stays, and I do that on top of other commitments. Owning a holiday home is a big responsibility, but one that I absolutely love. I would, however, love somebody to bring me a nice glass of wine, so we can unwind together at the end of it all!
