People always tell me that I’m difficult to buy for but unusual gifts are always good. I think there are a couple of reasons for that. Firstly, if I see something that I want, generally I tend to just get it – there isn’t often something that I really want, and because I can be quite an impulsive person I don’t typically like to wait for a special occasion to get a new product. The other reason is that my taste is relatively eclectic – I like pretty unusual things that nobody else would really think of, even on occasions like Valentine’s Day. That’s why I thought it would be useful to put together a list of five unusual gifts that I would love to receive – and maybe they will help you out if you’ve got somebody in your family who is difficult to shop for.
Zombie apocalypse training
I’m really into watching zombie apocalypse and survivalist movies and TV shows. While I regularly like to tell myself that I know all the tips and tricks to survive – and sometimes shout them at the screen! — I would love to go on an actual zombie apocalypse training day and really test my knowledge. This gift would not be for the faint-hearted, but would be an excellent experience for any zombie geek and would be a memory they would treasure forever.
Koi carp
I find it really relaxing to watch fish swimming around in a tank. I remember when I was a kid, I’d sit on the stairs and watch all the fish swimming around in my Mum’s fish tank, and I’d imagine the conversations the fish would have with each other. Now that I’m a grown-up, I would absolutely love a giant aquarium with koi carp in it. They’re such beautiful fish and I love the way the light reflects off of them when they’re swimming, so they’re absolutely hypnotizing to watch. Watching animals is a great way to let go of the stresses of life and just completely zone out for a little while.
Tiny hair tools
Because I have to travel quite a bit, I often feel that I have to bring huge bags with me just to accommodate my tools for getting myself camera ready to blog the experience. I recently saw really tiny versions of hair tools, like a miniature hair dryer or hair straightener, and I absolutely fell in love. I feel like these would be perfect for cutting down on the luggage that I need to bring with me, and while I’m sure they wouldn’t be able to help me achieve my entire look, they’re great for any little top-ups that I need throughout the day.
When we’re living abroad, one of the most important things is being able to quickly get things sorted. Even if you have a decent amount of time before your trip, there are still things that you’ll need to do in order to get everything in order. This is where these little bags come in handy. They’re small and compact, but they can still fit a surprising amount of things.
When you’re travelling, you’re bound to have things that you require while you’re on the go. This can be as simple as a pen, or anything else that you may need now and then.
A Hammock
I’d actually love to be swinging in hammocks, laid back and relaxed all day but of course, with a hammock, you also require the space for one. Which I definitely don’t have, but a girl can dream.
